Web services where I can sell my ebook chapter by chapter?
I have written a novel and would like to explore the option of self publishing. My idea is to sell the book chapter by chapter, tentatively priced at $1. Online services I have found typically charge $1 per transaction, and this is obviously incompatible with my concept.
Does anybody know of services that support this type of publishing?
Nope, for the simple reason that it doesn’t work.
Not that your novel isn’t terrific–I wouldn’t know–but that authors with established fan bases have tried this, most notably Stephen King and Cory Doctorow, and both pronounced it a failure.
Consider, among other things, how you will drive traffic to your site, how you will deal with piracy if it happens, what the total cost of the novel would be, and how much time, effort, and possibly money it will cost to host transactions on a secure server.
Self-publishing fiction, in any form, is pretty much a guaranteed money loser. If you’re really pleased with your novel, I urge you to submit it to paying publishers.
