Interested in publishing, will be wasted degree?
I am 24 and just out of college. I spent most of my college not knowing what to do, but a year ago decided to go ahead and declare my major, and now I have a license psychology. I have teachers who want to help me – Give me letters of recommendation, assistanceship in laboratory work, etc. .. but I am now psychology conscientious, while fascinating, is not something I see myself in. I've always been right brain and loved the artistic career (graphic design desktop publishing, web design, photography, etc. ..) and have decided I want to become a desktop publisher. Question: I guess that means I'll have to go to a technical school or college like a 2yr program desktop publishing? Does my BA degree in psy be wasted my career?
No diploma is never lost, but it is more common in some areas than others. I have my degree in graphic design. In my experience, there is only so much you can convince a customer of. You may be able to prove the reality, but once they have one thing in mind, it is difficult to get it out. You end up compromising a lot. Psychology could be a help or a hindrance. Or it could simply deal with customers all more fun. If you are interested in a career in art, I suggest going at least a bachelor's degree. It is available in AA, but most creative people can get away with more education and experience. Good luck!
